The gate opened, and Kalinda came home with
her work bag. She cheerfully greeted her father, but he
only stared sharply with anger.
“Explain what this all means, Kalinda,” his
father’s voice was heavy and scared Kalinda.
“Why, Dad? What’s wrong?” Kalinda panicked.
Without a word, the man handed over a red box
labeled ‘Dear: Kalinda’.
“A Dutch man named Adrian delivered this. Do
you know him?” the father asked intimidatingly. Kalinda
was silent, bowing her head. She knew her father
strongly opposed their relationship. Her father, a freedom
fighter, hated colonizers and their descendants.
“Kalinda!” the father shouted.
“I know you have something with him. Stop this
relationship! I will arrange you to marry my friend’s son.
He is much better than that Dutch man,” he commanded.
