Those  words  comforted  Adrian’s  heart,  though

               there  was  still  worry  about the social views that might
               stand in their way.


                                          …


                       That afternoon, Adrian was walking in the middle

               of the city, not picking up Kalinda as usual at her request.

               His  eyes  were  drawn  to  a  star-shaped  necklace  in  a
               jewelry  store’s  display  window.  Kalinda’s  image

               appeared in his mind, her bright smile seemed to be right
               in  front  of  him.  With  a  small  smile,  he  bought  the

               necklace as a surprise.


                       At  dusk,  Adrian  knocked  on  Kalinda’s  house

               door. But who greeted him was not the woman he loved,
               but a middle-aged man with a stern gaze.


                       “Who  are you?” the man asked sharply, making

               Adrian’s heart pound.


                       Adrian tried to stay calm and introduced himself
               respectfully. But the man’s gaze was full of judgment, as

               if testing his sincerity.
