been visiting the homes—more precisely, the homes of
people of foreign descent living in the area.
“All right, we’ll give you a reprieve for today.
But if you don’t leave by tomorrow, we will destroy your
homes!” the group continued. Shortly after, the tense
voices faded away.
The sobs of a woman filled the heavy silence of
the house. Her crying did not cease even though her son
held her tightly.
“Adrian… we have to leave this place
immediately. Please, just this once, listen to Moeder. I
don’t want to lose you, Adrian…” the woman whispered.
Adrian could only nod. He couldn’t bear to see
the middle-aged woman in front of him cry. For Adrian,
his mother’s and his own safety was the top priority now.

That night, Adrian was packing his belongings.
His activity stopped when he saw a pile of letters sent by
