His eyes welled up with tears. The tears almost
fell, wetting the paper she was holding. Adrian felt truly
guilty towards Kalinda. He was the one who had pursued
her, yet suddenly he was about to disappear without a
word.
He found a piece of paper on Adrian’s work desk.
He took a pen and the paper. Adrian began to write with
his black pen on the paper. Afterwards, he folded the
paper and put it into an envelope.

News about the purge of foreigners and their
descendants had spread throughout the region. Kalinda’s
anxiety grew worse ever since the news broke. The last
time Kalinda saw Adrian was one day before her
confrontation with her father. She feared that Adrian had
been captured by the soldiers.
Weeks passed with Kalinda waiting for news
about Adrian. Her heart was broken, confused, and
