THUD! With one push, his uncle shoved Jaka
aside.
“Jaka, get out of here! It’s no use!” he shouted.
Jaka fell to the floor, covered in dust, his fragile body
shaking even more. His eyes filled with tears as he
looked at his uncle.
“No, Uncle! I’m not leaving you!” he cried, his
voice trembling, almost drowned by the roaring fire that
was growing louder around them.
Prawiro Ngabdul looked at his nephew with a
face full of guilt. “Jaka, listen to me! You still have a
long life ahead. Your sister Laras needs you! Get out of
here now!” he said firmly.
But Jaka didn’t move. He kept trying to push the
heavy beam, even though his body was already weak.
Suddenly, a loud voice came from outside the house.
“Jaka! Get out of there now!” the neighbors
shouted, snapping Jaka back to reality.
Prawiro Ngabdul gathered the last of his strength
and pushed Jaka away from him.
