“Thank you, Mr. Harjojo,” replied Jaka, his body
soaked in sweat.
Mr. Harjojo, followed by Jaka and Laras, entered
a busy soto (soup) shop, filled with the sound of
conversations and clinking bowls. After waiting a bit,
Mr. Harjojo ordered three bowls of soto. Jaka and Laras
sat down, waiting as the server brought the food with
practiced ease. One by one, the bowls were placed on the
table. Mr. Harjojo sat in front of them.
“Thank you very much, Mr. Harjojo. Sorry for
the trouble,” said Jaka once again, feeling a little
embarrassed.
“Hahaha, no need to feel shy, Jaka. You and your
sister remind this old man of his own childhood—always
fighting with my siblings, but in the end, we still loved
each other,” said Mr. Harjojo while adding chili to his
soup.
“Oh yes, how have you been, Jaka? Is your uncle
still hitting you?” he asked with a concerned face while
stirring his soup.
Jaka just stayed silent and smiled. The lively
chatter and laughter continued to fill the small shop. A
few minutes passed, and Jaka and Laras had finished
