The young man, named Rudi, was resting under a large
tree, wiping the sweat from his brow.
Their eyes met in an intense gaze, as though
something deep connected them despite coming from
entirely different worlds. Margaretha felt as if a magnet
was pulling her closer. Rudi, who couldn’t ignore the
beauty of the foreign girl from the moment he saw her,
felt his heart race uncontrollably. Though he knew their
relationship was impossible, something about
Margaretha made him feel different.
“Excuse me,” Margaretha greeted him, her voice
soft yet firm, trying to start a conversation.
Rudi turned, a bit surprised, but quickly smiled.
“Yes, Miss? Is there something I can help you with?”
“What are you carrying?” Margaretha asked, even
though she already knew it was rice. She just wanted to
keep the conversation going.
