so  cleverly  she  almost  missed  it,  was  a  yellowed

               envelope with her name.


                       Her hands trembled as she opened it.


                       Inside,  she  found  two things: a photograph of a
               woman  who  looked  exactly  like  her,  and  a  birth

               certificate—hers.  But  something  was  off.  Where  her

               parents’  names  should’ve  been,  were  names  she  had
               never heard of.


                       Adopted.


                       She  sank  into  the  chair,  staring  blankly  at  the

               wall. All this time, she thought she knew who she was.

               Her  parents,  the  accident,  her  life  story—it  had  all
               been… a version of the truth.


                       Tears blurred her vision, but not from sadness. It

               was  a  mix of shock and strange relief. Her grandfather
               hadn’t  lied to her; he had protected her. He had waited

               until she was strong enough to face the truth.
